Who is on Your Birth Team?

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU’RE EXPECTING!

Whether this is your 1st or 4th baby… creating your birth team is an important part of the process! Your birth team can include a midwife, OB/GYN, family physician, chiropractor, doula, acupuncturist, massage therapist, your partner, family member, childbirth educator and many more! All of whom may play a different role at different times during your pregnancy. So where do you begin?

You can begin by creating a birth plan:

1. Educate Yourself

  • The Location: Where do you feel most comfortable? At a birthing center? At the hospital? At home?

  • The Process: Vaginal birth vs C-section, the impacts of both. Inducing birth? How do you feel about it? What is Pitocin- what is the impact? What is an Epidural- what is the impact?

2. ASK QUESTIONS

  • Understand your birth options. Practitioners will be happy to answer any and all questions and concerns, so don’t leave with questions and uncertainties.

  • Talk to other moms who have used that provider, how was their experience?

  • The goal is to be empowered! Remember this is YOUR day!

3. Gather your Birth Team

  • After asking all your questions, choose your providers!

  • If there comes a time where you are not comfortable, what are your options?

4. Break Down your Birth Vision

  • How do you feel about birth? If this is your 2nd, or 3rd baby is there anything you would like to do differently? Is there any fear involved? If so where is it coming from?

  • Write these down!

5. Give Yourself Lots of GRACE

  • Like everything in life, we can prepare and plan as much as we can but sometimes God has other plans. Give yourself grace that whatever happens, planned or unplanned things will work out. Be flexible!\=

You are amazingly created to give birth! Trust in your body! Enjoy your BIRTH day!
